F.P.Journe named Japanese watchmaker Shin Ohno the winner of its 2026 Young Talent Competition at the manufacture in Geneva on 14 April. The award, organised with The Hour Glass, supports emerging independent watchmakers.

Fuyu-Geshiki: a winter landscape

Ohno’s creation brings together a grande and petite sonnerie, a quarter repeater and a tourbillon. Inspired by the landscape of Nagano, it uses sound, movement and contrasting finishes to express flowing water and snow. He developed the mechanism without relying on a base movement.

The winner receives a diploma and a CHF 50,000 grant to fund tools or a horological project. This is a prize for an independent creator, rather than the announcement of a new F.P.Journe collection model.
